Friday 8th March, I set off from the IOM on the
evening sailing, arriving in Heysham at 11.30 pm in readiness for the team
launch the next day.
We arrived at Buyabike in Chorley (www.buyabike.co.uk) at 10.15;
it was a great shop selling everything you needed, with such a wide range of
goods on sale. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This was the first
time I had met all my new team mates, Maxgear has Senior, Junior and Women’s
teams. Alongside this it was great to meet the sponsors, and to listen to them
announce their enthusiasm for the sport. I would like to say a big thank you to
Champion Systems, Buyabike, Sorrymate.com, Mi cable Tidy, YouthSportsfuel Turbocarb,
Base bikes, Club Roost, Limar, Kenda, Jagwire and Lake. At 12.30 we had to
leave to catch the boat the ferry home from Birkenhead.
The next day I got up early to prepare for the first local
race of the season a 15 mile Time trial in Ramsey. I opened the curtains to see
snow had covered the mountain in the distance.
We travelled to the race HQ to sign on. I decided to keep my leg warmers
on for the race, I warmed up on the rollers, then it was 3,2,1 and I was off, I was fortunate enough to be
able to catch and pass several riders on the way out, before I reached the half-way
point. Then I turned right and started the return into a strong headwind, I had
nobody to catch in the first few miles as I chewed the stem, but as I neared
the finish, I managed to catch and pass a few more. I was reasonably pleased
with my time of 35.10, and finished 3rd overall. I changed kit, got
wrapped up well and then headed home to finish off my training for the day. The
ride home started off with sleet and snow, but it soon cleared up and I was
really pleased I was wearing my Maxgear kit, as it kept me really warm and was
very comfortable.
Next week sees the first road race of the season, which is
bound to be fast, and I am looking forward to it.
Thanks for reading my Blog
Josh.
